Bootcamp – A culture of fitness renegades

 

Have you ever heard the saying?:

Well, I think one of the great things about living a fitness lifestyle is that you get to take a stand in something that makes you a stronger person – mentally, physically and emotionally.  When you take a stand and commit to living a healthy lifestyle, you’re far less likely to fall into other ways of living that may take toll on your health, your state-of-mind and your life.

For example, before I started in my fitness journey, I spent my time focused on working at a “job”, burning the candles at both ends, and living for the weekends.  Then when the weekend would come I would focus on having as much “fun” as humanly possible, which usually consisted of rich, heavy meals and a steady supply of beer.  I drank my beer, but if I could have had it drip-fed to me intravenously it would have been easier to keep the consistent “happiness-buzz” I was always after.  (Keep in mind, this was me over 12 years ago…I’ve changed a lot since then.)

However, even if you’re not a drinker like I formally was, if you’re not committing to fitness as a lifestyle, what are you inviting into your life to take it’s place?  Maybe a life sitting in front of a computer for 10 hours a day…now that’s a lifestyle that Mark Zuckerberg would be proud of!

How about a life of being a TV-a-holic.  Now that’s about 99% of America right now.  For the last two years I’ve had no television in my house except for DVD movies and the occasional Netflix.  It’s no coincidence that this has been the most productive 2 years of my life.

How about a life of complacency?  A life of settling for what you get?  A life of being the ideal American consumer, always eating, shopping, working…rinse, wash, repeat.  (We’re all in this trap.  Some more than others.)

In our bootcamp and fitness culture at Fit For Life Solutions, we have a great mix of people with diverse ages, backgrounds, and upbringings.  Yet despite our unique differences, we have many things in common that unifies us and creates strength in us.

We like to think of ourselves as fitness renegades.  We don’t really fit into the common mold.  Here is a list of the things that define our “fitness renegade mentality” at Fit For Life Solutions.  Please leave a comment and let me know if you agree or disagree and most importantly why.

List of beliefs that defines the “fitness renegades” of Fit For Life Solutions

  •  We believe that fitness is a lifestyle, and we don’t buy into the false hype of quick-fix solutions
  • While we don’t believe in a “quick-fix” we do believe in taking decisive and swift action to produce results.
  • We believe in changing things up to keep things fresh and to keep from getting bored.
  • We believe that what you put into it is what you get out of it!
  • We believe that drugs and medications are the last resort.
  • We believe in preventative health.
  • We believe in NOT wasting our time with the tabloids, popular “super-model” media and bullshit infomercials that are constantly being pushed down our throats.
  • We believe in listening to your body, and becoming “in-tune” with your body at many different levels.
  • Like the ancient Greeks, we believe that through healthy eating and regular exercise, you can live a strong and healthy life – physically, mentally and emotionally.
  • We believe that if you take care of your body, your body will take care of your mind, and your mind will take care of your life.
  • We believe that motivating others to engage in a fitness lifestyle is a part of our own fitness journey, and by doing so we do our part to make the world a better place.
  • We believe in diversity and free thinking.
  • We believe that everyone is entitled to an opinion and is free to share it, as long as it’s solutions-minded and not destructive in it’s intent.
  • We believe that nothing motivates better than seeing results.  This is why our bootcamps are the best on the west coast when it comes to delivering fat loss and visible results to our clients.
  • We believe that a smile and a high-five goes a long way.  Helping others stay motivated and to become part of a unified energy is a key component in all our training programs.
  • We believe that everyone is different, and each person will find what works for them.  Everyone has a “key”, and some people just take a little longer than others to find it – but they will find it if they keep at it!
  • We believe that quitting is for smokers.  If you start up in fitness, make a commitment and persevere.  Don’t give up!
  • We believe that fat loss is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise.  BUT, before that, it takes 100% commitment and visualization to make what’s in your mind a reality!
  • We believe in working out with intensity.  Go hard or go home!!  (of course, sometimes you got to work up to this mindset if you’re just getting started…)
  • For those that are just starting out, we believe in making steps toward your success.  Don’t do it all in one day.  Work up to higher levels slowly, and you’re much more likely to stick to it.

This list is the bulk of what defines us renegades of fitness – the bootcampers, trainee’s, and instructors at Fit For Life Solutions.
