Trader Joe’s Healthy Shopping w/ Cassandra and Maggie!

Hi guys,

The other day I went healthy food shopping at Trader Joe’s with two new bootcampers, Cassandra and Maggie. I must say, this was one of the funnest healthy shopping trips ever!

Here’s a video of our shopping. Hopefully it will give you some good ideas and help you with your own shopping.

Please leave a comment below. I’d really like to hear where your favorite place to shop is, and please include the name of your favorite healthy meal!

Thank you Cassandra and Maggie!!!!!!!!!!!

That was great. Thanks Forrest, Cass and Maggie!

My husband Mark and I make a point of going shopping every Sunday. I pretty much plan our dinners out for the week and we get the usual supsects for our breakfasts/lunches/snacks. Since we both work regular shedules, our M-F needs are pretty repetitive, which makes it easy to plan. As far as dinner goes, I just plan the main course, and then for the starch we always have stuff on hand…brown rice, whole wheat pasta, potatoes, couscous, whole grain bread. And, we almost always have a salad with our dinner. To save time, we buy baby carrots and grape tomatoes, since they don’t need to be chopped up. We buy an old-fashioned head of lettuce ( I think it tastes better than the lettuce in plactic bags) but I prep. it on Sunday so it’s super quick to toss in a bowl later in the week. And lately, we barbeuce two chicken breasts on Sunday when we get back from shopping to have those on hand for sandwiches or salads during the week. That was Mark’s idea :-)

My favorite healthy meal? I have lots, but one that was especially pleasing recently was grilled boneless center-cut pork chops, homemade applesauce (all you do is chop up apples, put them in a pot, add a tocuh of water, bring to boil, then simmer for 20 minutes and mash it up), homemade wedge fries (baked on a cookie sheet with olive oil and salt and peper) and salad. It was easy, and made us happy!

We buy our meat and eggs at Whole Paycheck, I mean Whole Foods, (the meat has no added hormones, no antibiotics, is fed organic feed and the critters get to walk around outside) but we buy most everything else at Lucky. Less spendy.

    Woo-hoo! Go Bootcampers!

I shop at Sprouts…and a new store just opened in Sunnyvale this
summer! There are tons of organic foods at a fraction of the price
for what you would find at Whole Foods.

My favorite meal breakfast which is Cheerios (plain) with
Almond Breeze Almond Milk(unsweetened) followed by snack of
a slice of Alvarado Street Essential Flax Seed Bread(Only 50 cal
per slice and 6.5 Net Carbs per slice) with cream cheese
    or spread…YUM!

I just wanted to add to my comment above that Forrest has taught me a lot about healthier eating. I do the things I do because of Forrest’s guidance over the last 8 months. We didn’t use to eat so well. Gotta give props where they are due!

@Sara, the pork chops and applesauce sounds gooooood. And I like Mark’s idea on the chicken breast ready-to-go. Thanks for the props!!

@Aubyn, only 50 cal per slice for flaxseed bread? Good find!! I’d like to try that!

    Thanks for your comments!!
